Vintage Mars Attacks Card Scans!

If there's a patient zero in post-modern America that fed the "gamma strain" into the pop culture mileu, the Mars Attacks collectible cards are a prime suspect.

Here's a few juicy scans posted on Flickr (hat tip to Boing Boing, BTW) of the set, as released in the 60s. They were, of course, the guiding inspiration behind Tim Burton's 1996 film.

Enjoy!

  1. Funny what survives and what doesn't. I'd love to know what those cards were up against and what it was they had that won the day. Looking back, it's hard for us to be objective - subjectively I say I'm glad they made it and gave us what they did, but I still wonder what might have been.

  2. Wow, I've never seen any of those. Completely awesome. "Destroying a dog" is especially disturbing/eerie/fantastic.
