So here's a Tom Cruise film I'd only heard a few whispers about until now. I'd nearly written it off it had been so long since I'd seen anything, but now this trailer pops up and I have to say it looks intriguing. Especially since there's not a huge cast.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing more. Here's the synopsis, via io9:
Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man's confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. Here's the poster:
Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack's mission is nearly complete.
Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
His vehicle is super cool. Not entirely sure about the film itself yet but it has potential.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard about this one before, but it's on my radar now. Love the look of things.
ReplyDeleteYeah the design looks really solid in this one. With the small cast it sort of has a Omega Man/I Am Legend feel. I'm liking that poster a lot.
ReplyDeleteThat flyer intrigues me, I mean it looks cool, but the flip over take off irritates me as utterly impractical and unrealistic; like, no engineer would design a vehicle to do that (nit picky bastard that I am, LOL) but if it's written in as a character thing, that's cool, like Jack just has to take off that way to show off or whatever.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, this strikes me as the setting is a grown up version of Wall-E! But that's a compliment in my book.
Let's compare and contrast with After Earth... the other Earth is so F'ed up we abandoned it summer movie of 2013....
Both look SWEET! I'm glad they canceled the Apocalypse* on 12.21.12 because there are some awesome movies coming out in 2013!
*Pacific Rim fans: did you see what I did just there? LOL
