ReplyDeleteAbout 20 years ago a friend of mine worked out a deal with Dark Horse Comics to produce a Jet Jaguar comic book. My buddy would do the art and upon approval I would be the writer. The license was such that we could use any Godzilla monster or material except Godzilla himself (itself?).
I wrote and my friend drew 10 pages of the first issue and an 'ad' for the next issue. Dark Horse loved it. Three days later we were told it was a no go. Toho had pulled the license and therefore the plug on our dream job.
The ad for issue two was a dark shadow cast over Jet Jaguar of a certain three-headed, golden dragon. The caption read...
"Be Here Next Issue as Jet Jaguar Faces Off Against His Three Worst Enemies...King Ghidorah!"
Oh man, that's BUMMER! Does DH own the art since the license was pulled?

ReplyDeleteAs for the art, I think (I hope) my buddy got it back. He is currently an artist for DC Comics just to give you an idea of the level of cool that wen't into this. Damn shame.
